Hi guys,
Finally, the
much-awaited blog is out. It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this
platform, which advocates for environmental conservation and protection.
Environment has nothing to do with plants or animals but an interaction between
all the living forms of the environmental components and the non-living
forms. It is through this interaction,
that the greatest beneficiaries of the environment, the human beings, generate their
livelihoods.
Through environmental
conservation and protection, human beings are not only able to improve their
livelihoods but also in a position to enjoy an extended use of their
environment and its resources. It is against this kind of background that many
governments, educational institutions, organizations and even individuals are
working towards promotion of environmental education.
The University of Nairobi, being one of the
global stakeholders in the educational sector has not been left behind in
promotion of environmental conservation. Worth noting is the different
environmental programs offered by this university. A good example is the degree
program in the Management of Agro-ecosystems and environment offered at the
College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, LARMAT department. Despite being a new
course, about 4years old, this degree program seeks to promote good
agricultural practices that not only ensure food security in the country but
also enhance environmental accountability. It is also important to note the
various tree planting sessions that have been organized by the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences
that has led to the planting of thousands of trees annually. This is a good
reason as to why the college received a Silver Environmental Award in the
recent concluded eco-challenge.
Finally, I am humbled
to have set up this blog. I hope and believe that this is a platform we are
going to use well to institute good environmental morals to other members of
our society. May the Lord God bless you all, and may He bless our environment.
The ADMIN,
